Ice, Ice, Baby

As parents, we have learned that you win some and you lose some when it comes to the kids. Today we definitely felt like we were on every kind of losing end.... Anyway, Mike was so excited today to be taking all of us to (and meeting some co-workers at) a minor league Potomac Nationals (Single A Farm Club for the Washingtons Nats) game. It was a fantastic idea, in theory. Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong did. We survived some unusual traffic and a bad rainstorm on the way to the game, which got us off to a late start. The steamy summertime temps of course rose greatly after the storm. Michael, who had to be woken from his nap without a chance for lunch, refused to eat in the car and slowly became more and more grumpy. And, Katie immediately started bawling when she heard the loud music coming from the stadium. Basically, we didn't really even get a chance to see a bit of the game. So, what did save the day for the kids?? Somebody dumped a big bucket of ice outside of the venue, and the kids played in it for a good half-hour. It allowed all of us to simmer down, both physically and mentally. Well, there's always tomorrow...

We are hopefully headed down that way for a Father's Day game. Hopefully the elements will be better!
