Streaking

Not sure which of these three formidable ball players I would want to face on the mound these days! I took Michael to his first Nats game of the season on Thursday and, as it turned out, we were able to catch the 10th game of their 10 game win streak that recently came to an end. We had to brave some humidity and rain, but I think Michael enjoyed the experience (i.e., subway train ride and all).

Speaking of streaks, Neve went 9 straight days of her own without throwing up. Just sayin...

Anyway, MLB's post-season is fast approaching. Cubs aside, all of our other teams are very much still in it. The local papers are absurdly already talking of a Beltway World Series (Nationals vs. Orioles) and, while the Tigers and Pirates are doing their best to blow it at the moment, they are very much within striking distance. Hopefully we all have something to watch come October!

Lake Placid, NY

So sorry for not posting in ages! We were away on a wonderful summer vacation and, upon our return, were finally forced to purchase a new computer (it was long overdue). After a long installation/transfer/upload process, we've finally returned to the online world.

Our week up in Lake Placid, NY exceeded our expectations in every way. The cottage we stayed in was charming and only blocks off the lake. The scenery and weather were fantastic. The excursions (e.g., hiking, kayaking, nature centers, train rides) were very fun, but not too taxing. And the small town had a really cool vibe with all the Olympic venues scattered around. Finally, the trips up and back offered some interesting stops (i.e., USMA @ West Point, National Baseball Hall of Fame @ Cooperstown) and offered the kids some hotel pool time, which they always enjoy.

Roar!!

Every once in awhile we do something for the kids just BECAUSE.  No real reason...we just love to make them happy.  Tonight, Traci surprised the two older kids by taking them into the city to see "The Lion King."  They had known for weeks that they were going to have a surprise, but they had no idea what it was.  They still had no clue as we parked nearby and walked into the massive Kennedy Center.  Finally, Traci revealed the big surprise and their initial reactions were so predictable (at least to us):  KATIE - "Are there any other plays we can see instead?",  MICHAEL - "I don't want to see a real lion.  I'm scared!"  But, after these funny reactions, they did settle in and were absolutely riveted for the entire three hours of the show!  (Too bad Michael was scared by some audio-visual portions....his sitting on Mom's lap for most of the show nearly did her in.  Those seats were not designed for more than one person!)  Now on to the next summer adventure:  vacation!!!
