Get Well, Buddy
Please forgive our change in subject and tone, but our minds and hearts are with our dear pup, Geno. For the second time in three years, we almost lost him due to an unexplained reaction to anesthesia (necessary for his yearly dental cleaning). Our new Virginia vets were so careful with him and successfully performed the same routine procedures last year...but his old body didn't take it so well this year. Basically, he went into respiratory failure, and the vets worried that he would have a fatal cardiac arrest. Soon after, the medical team stabilized him and told us that they would be monitoring him all day. Miraculously, Mike went to check on him tonight, and the world's best and toughest dog was able to come home!! That's an old retired race dog for you...nothing can keep him down. Now, we're in for a long night...

Pilates, Anyone?
As proud as we are of her new skills, it's definitely made life a little more challenging. Obviously, she no longer wants to lay flat for diaper changes, and that can get a bit messy. Also, she hasn't really learned how to lay back down on her own yet. So, in the last couple of weeks, she has been waking herself up screaming from naps and at night after sitting up in her crib. It's these little things they never tell you as a potential parent...

Adventures in Babysitting
Who knew that the evil genius Geno the Greyhound would foil all of our best-laid plans? Just after Traci finally got Katie down for her morning nap, she tried the same with Connor. He was settling in to snooze in the Pack-n-Play parked in our kitchen when, all of a sudden, Geno decides that he just has to come down and have his breakfast. He proceeded to munch his kibble right in poor Connor's face, scaring him to death. Needless to say, Connor decided to cry out for help rather than sleep. All in all, Connor was an absolute angel for having missed his important morning nap. We can't wait to have him again!

Tummy Time is for BABIES!
As seen from this video clip, Kate has decided that she will no longer put up with this tummy time nonsense. She's getting better at manipulating her body from one position to another. No forward crawling yet (an occasional backwards crawl), but she's starting to twist and turn to get at what she wants.

Scooting in a Winter Wonderland
With a beautiful winter storm making the local roads a bit messy,
Katie and Mom were stuck at home today. As pictured here, the little one kept staring out our windows at the falling snow, as if to say "I want to go outside and play!" I promised her that she could as soon as she learns how to walk.
Speaking of which, Kate is really (and finally) coming along with her physical development. She has finally learned how to sit up on her own (found her sitting up this morning in the crib), and she is really starting to lunge for things like toys and the dog. As a matter of fact, she literally crawled backwards on all fours across the floor today. I think we are finally getting closer to some semblance of mobility. Guess we better start that baby-proofing project...

Brusha-Brusha-Brusha
However, the nightly brushing of the teeth is another matter altogether. Katie sure doesn't like this addition to her routine - she tries to bat and kick us away while we're working in her mouth. The tears flow and the screams abound. But the second we let her have the brush, all is forgiven. It just becomes another toy for her to chew on and throw to the ground.

Taking a Look in the Me-rror
Katie had another good well visit at the doctor this morning and took four more shots like a champ. We've updated her stats in the "Munchkin Metrics" section to the right. Looks like she had yet another growth spurt and is hanging around at 95th percentile in height. Only 25-50% in weight, though, despite her voracious appetite. I guess we could have given her a few more cupcakes...

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep...
Well, I'm off to sleep. Have to catch some zzz's for my 1-year well visit at the doctor tomorrow. I'll have some updated height/weight stats shortly!
