Back to the Ballpark

After taking a year off (2011) and breaking Katie's and Michael's streak of consecutive years in attendance of at least one Cubs game, we decided to embrace the chaos and bring the whole Family 5 downtown to Nationals Park to watch the Labor Day opener of the fall Nats-Cubs series.  We studiously confirmed that the Nats did away with the fireworks that caused Katie's early exit in 2010 (i.e., before the first pitch was even thrown).  We also got there early to grab some lunch and theorectically take in batting practice.  Neither team took any!  Instead, the kids ended up having a blast at the Nats playground outside centerfield.  To their credit, they made it through 4.5 innings before we called it a day.  Little Nevie slept through all the action.  And so did the Cubs' bats, as they lost 2-1.

Oh, and we ran into the loveable Racing Presidents mascots on our way out of the stadium.  Michael cried.  Katie refuse to shake Abe Lincoln's hand.  Guess we have to work on that "patriotism" thing!
