Purple Pain

So, about those broken fingers...  On Friday afternoon, Traci took the kids for a neighborhood walk to waste away some hours.  For some reason, once they saw that Mom would be pushing Neve in a stroller, each of the older kids wanted to bring their own stroller.  So, Traci let Katie bring another actual-size umbrella stroller while Michael brought the doll stroller.  But, she made them promise that they would be responsible for their own strollers the entire length of the walk....

About halfway through the walk, we stopped at a grassy area to let the kids run around and practice some tumbling skills.  Traci was tending to Neve in the stroller when she heard Katie let out a blood-curdling scream...which reminded her of the same scream that accompanied the broken arm last year.  When Traci asked Katie what happened (since she hadn't seen it), Katie just replied "I sat on it wrong!!!"  Seriously, what does that mean?  She wouldn't elaborate, so that is the story we have now forever.  Anyway, you can imagine that Mom had to trudge home pushing three different strollers...grumble, grumble.

Upon examination of the swelling and bruising, we still didn't think she had broken anything, but we figured we should go into the ER anyway.  When the doctor poked and prodded her fingers, he also guessed that she had merely jammed them.  Oh no....of course, the x-rays came back with two broken fingers on her right (dominant) hand.  So much for winning that penmanship award at school....  At today's orthopedic appointment, she chose the beautiful purple cast above to wear for the next 2.5 weeks.  She was concerned with what her classmates would think of it, but we assured her that they would be intrigued at worst, fascinated at best.  She has even agreed to get them to sign it this time around.  She'll be known as the girl with the purple cast in no time!
