It's fall in Northern Virginia, which can only mean one thing... LOTS of cool festivals and other fun family stuff to do!! We packed our weekend with a couple great things for the kids, including a fire station open house and an area pumpkin festival. (We'll talk more about the pumpkin fest tomorrow...)
If Michael could actually say the words, he would tell you that his two favorite things in the world right now are garbage trucks and fire engines. (The two very different things sound about the same at this point in his mish-mashed language.) So, when we noticed that all of the fire stations in our county were having open houses for the general public, we couldn't pass it up. We started out by investigating a ladder truck, the station's largest in its arsenal. (Check out Michael sitting in the driver's seat, honking the horn!) We then watched an actual hose demonstration on a "fiery house" facade. The kids were offered the hose to try on their own, but neither wanted to touch its power! Finally, we got to sit inside an ambulance (thank goodness, with no injuries or sickness) and ask the EMT millions of questions. We were really proud of Katie as she asked some great questions, such as "What does it feel like to go into a fire?"We had to drag both kids out of the open house kicking and screaming, but then we were off to the Pumpkin Festival....

Aww, we miss you guys! These are all the things we loved to attend in NoVA, too. It's already getting too cold here for me. Glad you are enjoying the Fall festivities!
