Going for the Gold

Yes, Winter Olympics Mania has officially hit our household.  The kids have watched the Opening Ceremonies so many times that we all have it memorized.  The NBC channels have been on our TV non-stop.  And, pictures of the American and Russian flag and the Olympics rings line our windows.  But, we decided to swap in some winter sports for a summer one today.  Katie, Traci, and some of their pals attended a college women's gymnastics meet at George Washington University in the city today.  The day was so exciting for Katie in so many ways.  First, she is absolutely obsessed with gymnastics these days.  No, she won't take a class (No thanks, Mom!), but she is constantly trying things around the house, watching gymnastics videos on YouTube, and reading nonfiction books about the sport.  So, to see competitive girls doing their thing live was a thrill.  Second, she finally got to ride the Metro into the city again.  She was giggling like crazy, riding and screwing around on the train with her pals.  And, third, she got one of her parents all to herself for almost the entire day.  That still means a lot to a 7-year-old.  Hopefully, she had a good enough time to want to go again next year!
