Yes, we joked yesterday about all of our "calamities" while at the beach, but that doesn't mean we didn't make many more magnificent lifetime memories. This time, we'll be a little less wordy and a little more showy:
Yes, we did have horrific drives to and from NC, but that didn't stop Neve from looking darn cute at the Currituck County Welcome Center. We...were...almost...there....
We had a great beach house, nestled into a wooded cul de sac, just a short walk from the beach. It afforded great privacy and space for the kids to pursue bicycling, hula hooping, jump roping, and bubble blowing. Here was one of Katie's favorite spots: the outdoor breakfast nook.
The tides and winds often did a number on the dunes, shifting them this way and that. One day, we lucked out with a little warm tidal pool that the younger kids loved. Even Neve tolerated playing at the beach that morning!
As for Katie, she's certainly come a long way with her fears of the ocean. By week's end, she was having so much fun going out far into the waves. Perhaps next vacation she'll actually brave the boogie board...
We also checked out the nearby sites, such as a local lighthouse and boating club. We saw so much cool wildlife: egrets, dolphins, turtles, crabs, foxes. We even spotted a kid catching a huge catfish with a net!
While not the biggest fan of the beach, Neve loved her stroller sojourns through nature. Here she is begging Daddy to take her up to the top of the lighthouse.
And, the drive home would not have been complete for Michael without a stop to check out his beloved Gravedigger Monster Truck. (Mommy lucked out of this stop since Neve was asleep in the car!!)

I generally love beach vacation photos - and these are just great.
We went up that lighthouse. It was one of the scariest parent moments for me. The stairs are steep and once you get to the top the rails are very open.
