Today was Michael's last day at his toddler movement class, Gym Jam. What started out as a relatively structured class designed to introduce the kids (mostly boys) to very basic sports skills devolved into an all-out open play time by the end of the 10 weeks. Oh well, I think he enjoyed it either way! Along the way, he did develop some new skills within the confines of the gym: swinging a tennis racket (usually downward, alas), hitting a ball off of a tee, and kicking a soccer ball into a goal. But, most exciting for us, Michael finally learned how to pedal a tricycle! I tried to capture a photo of him doing so today, but I never caught up to him. Just close your eyes after looking at him on this rocking horse and try to imagine a trike...
And, where was little Neve through all of this excitement? She has grown quite a bit over the past 10 weeks as well. When we first started to take the class in September, she still usually slept for most of the class in her stroller. By today, she wanted to be a part of the action! Thankfully, she cannot crawl into danger at this point, so I would just set her up on a mat with some toys and snacks. She always had a ball watching the "big kids" and listening to their music. Someday, Neve, you will own this joint!
Now that class is over for a few weeks, we've decided to change things up a bit in January and introduce Michael to an art class. It could be disastrous as he really likes to be on the move at all times, but we'll see how it goes. He could surprise us all and become a budding Picasso before all is said and done!
