You know how when you are expecting a baby, you make minor issues into a way bigger deal than they need to be? Well, Traci is obsessed with one Michael-related issue right now. He seems to have a complete aversion to the new bottom bunk...the one he is supposed to transition to in the next month or so. Transitioning a spirited kid from a crib to a big-boy bed is tough enough, but he seems to be scared or somehow put-off by the cavernous feel of the bottom bunk. (Kid loves to jump and see the light of the room, you know?) We're putting off even trying the transition until after the holidays, but we can't even get him to climb in and play in the bed right now. Somebody made a good suggestion of sticking some cool decals on the wall to lure him in. Another suggested adding some sort of light in the little cavern, but we're afraid he would just yank that down and hurt himself. We have had every kid visitor climb in and show Michael how fun it is (see picture with Katie and her neighbor buddy, Abigail), but so far it hasn't done any good. Any further suggestions from blog-world out there?

maybe you or Mike can spend a night or two in there to make it appealing
take the rail out so that it looks more open and put pillows on the floor for the chance fall.
get the glow in the dark star stickers to put on the bottom of the top bunk
to just get in there and have fun - potentially do a treasure hunt and place little trinkets/treats around for him to find
get those tap on tap off lights and glue them to the top of the bottom bunk
have him and katie watch a show while in the bunk to make it super fun
and finally tell him he can only have the paci in the bed and see what he chooses?
I know what you mean..."The baby is coming, you need to get used to sleeping in your new bed NOW!!!!!" Lots of good suggestions from "crismccabe", though my suggestion kind of avoids the subject. What if the baby slept in a pack & play, bassinet or even a drawer for a while? When Teddy arrived Jack was not transitioned to the big bed yet so Teddy slept with us for at least the first 4 months, then he went in the pack and play in our room for several months, then the crib. That would give you 6-9 more months for Michael to transition. Just two months behind Michael, there is no way *I* would be ready for Teddy to be in a bed that he could so easily get out of, he would never go to sleep!
