Esssss.... Ohhhh.....

Kate has ALWAYS loved "reading" books since she was very young, much to her parents' delight. She often focuses on her books over all of her other toys whenever we play inside. (And, she was obsessed by this bear holding a book at the mall.) Perhaps this book-mania is starting to pay off. She has recently started to ask us to identify individual letters for her, and she has S ("essssss") and O ("OHHH!") down pat. Obviously, she has a long way to go before her own reading begins, but this is a great start!

Here she is at the mall pointing out every "S" that she sees to Mommy.

Cruisin'

Check out this cutie cruising down the road... steering with one hand, lazily sprawling the other across the front seat. She looks like she's off to pick up her buddies Connor, Sam, Libby, Lyla, Patrick, and Ryan for a date at the play gym. Luckily we have 14 more years to worry about that.

Life is Crazy

Who would have thought five years ago that our daughter would be sitting next to the son of a San Diego State grad watching an ND-SDSU football game? Well, that's exactly what happened tonight as we watched the Notre Dame home opener with Mike's academy roommate, Brian. As blog postings indicate, Brian and his wife, Maureen, have become great friends over the past three years and we are lucky to have them with us in Northern Virginia.

The kids did their best to pose in their respective school colors. At top, Katie was quite distraught at the Irish performance in the first half. But by the end, with the help of a timely SDSU turnover, ND pulled out a 21-13 victory (which Connor could not bear to watch) to prevent the upset. Phew!

This One's for Grammy

Here's a shout-out to Grammy K! Katie's latest favorite toy-du-jour is her (borrowed) ambulance that sounds its siren and flashes its lights with a push of a button. We think of EMT/nurse Grammy (and Great-Grandma M. for that matter) every time we play with it. Too bad we have to give it back to its rightful owner. Maybe someday Grammy can give Katie a tour of a real ambulance!

Perpetual Motion

At first I was going to erase this image off of our digital camera... But, then I realized that it perfectly sums up our daughter (and her buddy Connor in the background) right now - perpetual motion! She doesn't want to stand still for anything, certainly not a camera shot. Go Katie, go!

More Acrobatics

This kid is bound and determined to make it to the Olympics! Here's another picture from yesterday's pool party...Katie's attempting a complicated gymnastics routine using a new piece of equipment - the pool chair. She probably could have gotten a perfect 10 from the judges if her arms and legs weren't bent... She'll keep working on it, we're sure.

Last Swim of Summer

With all the neighborhood pools closing down after Labor Day, Katie may have had her last swim in 2008 this afternoon. She sends a HUGE thank you to all our friends that have invited us to splash around this summer. Today, Brian and Connor had us over to close out their community pool. Too bad, as temperatures are supposed to reach the 90s again this week. While we are thankful for football being back, we are certainly anxious for some autumn weather.

Here's one last swim video for the year. Just Katie being Katie...
